iPhone OS 4.0

April 9, 2010

*I give props to Steve Jobs for wearing the same friggin’ outfit every day.

Ah, so the iPhone OS 4.0 was announced by Jedi Knight Jobs today.   I have conflicted feelings about this.  I love the fact that I will finally be able to move my “not so favorite, but still utilitarian-worthy” apps into a Folder that I will label “Meh.” and all my gaming apps into the “Work” folder.  And all my social media apps into “Facetime”…etc. etc.

But, as with all “sneak peek” previews that Apple releases, there is a hefty price tag that comes along with it.  Notably, the multi-tasking feature won’t be available for iPhone 3G.

As much as I loathe parting with my 3G, I am not all too concerned with this.  I anticipate a $99 3GS in the summer (with the release of 4.0) or more likely a 4G version of the iPhone in the fall of 2010.  That is nothing confirmed, just a gut instinct since Apple is becoming quite predictable about price drops and OS development.  Even without a price drop, I am due for a contract extension anyway, so really, I am ok with it what ever Apple rolls out. Although, let it be known that I WILL jump carriers once the CDMA version of iPhone is released to the Verizon network.  Verizon is just so much better and faster than AT&T!

Anyway, I digress.

Another price to be paid: Advertising through iAds.  Really?  I guess Apple does promote Capitalism after all?  Hmm…there goes that myth about Apple being run by a bunch of Commies.

For me personally, as someone who has a background in website promotion/internet marketing–this is an exciting and novel concept and I really hope it takes off so I can utilize it to make millions of dollars in Apple currency, or what ever new currency will evolve from iAds…  You laugh now, but you just wait–it will happen and you heard it first here.

Overall, despite the expense to be incurred by your’s truly and millions of other suckers for gadgetry, I can’t wait for 4.0 and what ever phone will come with it.  It will surely be worth the wait.
